MAZAL TOV to Shana & Mitchell Nathanson upon the engagement of their daughter, Marissa Young of Givat Shmuel, Israel to Zak Tick, son of Ruthie & Drew Tick of Jerusalem, Israel. THE MARK KALMANOWITZ FRIDAY NIGHT LEARNING PROGRAM: The learning will continue through the winter months until we return the clock to daylight savings time on Purim, after parshat Tetzaveh/Zachor. Every Friday night following maariv in the Beit Medrash, a ten-minute dvar torah on the week's parsha is presented by a different person. This week's dvar torah will be delivered by Dr. Zev Brandel.

HASHKAMA MINYAN KIDDUSH: There will be a Hashkama Minyan Kiddush this week.

HaNC HIGH SCHOOL SHABBATON FEBRUARY 24-25, 2017: The West Hempstead community will be hosting a HANC HIGH School Shabbaton on February 24-25.

BEATY MENCHEL’S WEEKLY SHIUR FOR WOMEN: Beaty Menchel's weekly Chumash Shiur will not take place next week. 



SHABBAT MORNING YOUTH GROUPS: Groups will start at 10 am and will run until Shul is over. As usual, all kids who show up will receive a ticket towards the prize redemption raffle at the end of the year! Additional tickets will be given out if you know the answers to questions on this week’s parsha! Also, if you tell us a joke about this week’s Parsha you will receive an additional ticket! ECDP WOMEN'S BOOK CLUB: The book club meeting featuring “See Jane Run” by Joy Fielding will be meeting Monday, February 6, 2017 at 8:30 pm at the home of Leah Fish, 632 Jefferson Street. The books are available at the West Hempstead library under Nancy’s book club.

New Combination for Sprague Entrance: Please be advised that we have replaced the lock for the Sprague entrance and have changed the combination. Please use the combination efes, vav, aleph, gimmel. TZEDAKA FUND: A Charity Account has been created to provide for those who come to collect and other tzedakah needs. This fund will be overseen by Rabbi Greer and checks should be made out to Eitz Chayim Charity Account and can be given to Rabbi Greer or Josh Kupchik.

SHUL REMINDERS: Please do not bring any Strollers into the Shul. Strollers must remain outside all buildings. Please do not bring food into the new sanctuary. Please remember to make sure the doors are locked when you are the last or next to last person to leave the Shul. Thank you for your cooperation.

MEMO FROM THE WELCOMING COMMITTEE The Welcoming Committee welcomes new families to West Hempstead. Additionally, they arrange a Friday night dinner to be delivered to new families for their first Shabbat. We are looking for more volunteers that would be interested in offering to bring Shabbat food for a new family when they move in. If you would be interested in being asked to cook one or two dishes every 3-6 months (depending on how frequently people move in) please email Jessica Leifer ( or Leah Fish ( and we would be happy to add you to our pool of volunteers. MANC WINTER HOURS: The Mikvah weekend hours are: Saturday night: 6 p.m. – 10:30 pm, Sunday: 5:30 pm – 10:30 pm. Motzei Shabbat & Sunday: a community member is on duty till 7:30 p.m. At 7:30 pm our regular attendant will come on duty. Check the MANC message for any changes in the time. The Mikvah will open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights at 5:30 pm. Please check the machine for new time as the zman changes. Please take advantage of these new extended hours. The West Hempstead Food Bank is now making available cards which can be given to your Shabbat hosts and/or used for any other occasion. All proceeds from the sales of the cards, which indicate that a donation has been made to the Food Bank, will be used to purchase food. IDENTIFICATION FOR CHILDREN: Parents should consider getting some form of ID for their children to carry with them at all times. Below is a link to one such website. Carrying ID is so important and quite inexpensive - starting at about $20. It is good to have on for Shabbat, biking, walking, running etc. when kids (or even adults) don't carry ID. May we only know smachot.
